A Hopeful January

It’s only Monday night and I’m already exhausted. But in the good way, I’m pretty sure. Figured I should write a quick informal post about the semester so far to help me process and unwind.

Job searching has kept me busy but I feel like I’m still not quite able to put all the time into it that I’d need to see the results that I’d like. It’s tedious but I get some amount of enjoyment out of it and seeing some of the opportunities out there. I’m hoping the little bits of time I’ve been putting into the search will add up and eventually be enough to get some decent offers by the time I graduate.

Job searching has also helped me appreciate all the skills I’ve collected. I feel like I’m in a good spot. It’s been great for motivation.

I’ve got a couple group projects this semester. Need to have MVPs (minimum viable products) ready in around two months. I’m actually not stressing about these as much as I thought I’d be. I’ve got good groups, and our project ideas are fun and realistic. I can already feel that having two projects to hop between will go a ways towards keeping me from getting burned out on either one. So far, working on these has been something I look forward to.

The database design class I’m in is more interesting than I thought. Up to now I’ve only had a casual knowledge of SQL, learning the bits and pieces I need for a specific project and then soon forgetting it. It’s refreshing to more deeply understand a tool that I’ve been using for so long. I’m really looking forward to when we move on from SQL later in the semester too, since that stuff is slightly more foreign to me.

Looking forward to what the future brings.
